Peak to Peak Moving · Local Guide · 2026
Thinking about relocating to the Adirondacks? You’re not alone. Saranac Lake is one of the most charming small towns in New York State, and as your local movers, we’ve helped dozens of families make the leap. Here’s everything you need to know before, during, and after your move.
Why people are moving to Saranac Lake
Nestled in the heart of the Adirondack Park, the largest protected natural area in the contiguous United States, Saranac Lake offers something increasingly rare: a genuine sense of community, four spectacular seasons, and a cost of living that makes city dwellers do a double take. Remote workers, retirees, young families, and outdoor enthusiasts have all discovered the same thing: life is simply different here. You can kayak on Lake Flower before work, walk to independent restaurants and galleries downtown, and still be in Burlington or Plattsburgh in under two hours when you need a city fix.Getting to know the neighborhoods
Downtown Village: Walkable, vibrant, and full of character. Close to restaurants, the farmers market, and the arts scene. A great choice if you want to feel plugged into community life from day one. Lakefront and Lake Flower area: Stunning water views and easy boat access. Homes here tend to be larger and well-established. Perfect for families or anyone who wants to wake up to the Adirondacks every morning. Surrounding hamlets (Bloomingdale, Ray Brook, Gabriels): More space, more privacy, and often better value. Ideal for those who want land, a garage, or room for a home studio or workshop, while staying a short drive from town.Your new-resident checklist
